This Privacy Policy explains how AfterShe, Inc. (“AfterShe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects personal information when you use https://www.aftershe.com and related AfterShe services (collectively, the “Services”).

AfterShe is an online entertainment platform where users can watch original serialized short-form video dramas, create accounts, interact with episodes through features such as likes and comments, and receive updates about new content.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in three main ways: information you provide to us, information collected automatically when you use the Services, and limited information received from an authentication provider when you choose to sign in through that provider.

Information you provide

Depending on how you use AfterShe, this may include:

  • your email address;
  • your username, display name, or other account profile information;
  • authentication-related information;
  • content and interactions you choose to submit, such as comments and likes;
  • communications you send to us, including support inquiries and privacy requests; and
  • notification or communication preferences, where applicable.

We do not ask users to create or provide a password to AfterShe where authentication is handled through passwordless or third-party sign-in methods.

Information collected automatically

When you access or use the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect limited technical and usage information, such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser type and device characteristics;
  • operating system;
  • language preferences;
  • referring URLs;
  • approximate country or region derived from network information;
  • pages, episodes, and features accessed;
  • timestamps and similar usage information; and
  • diagnostic, security, and error information.

We use this information to operate the Services, maintain security, diagnose technical issues, understand usage, and improve performance.

Information from sign-in providers

If you choose to sign in using a third-party authentication provider, such as Google, we may receive limited account information from that provider, such as your name, email address, profile image, and an account identifier, depending on the permissions you grant and the provider’s settings.

We do not purchase personal information from data brokers, marketing partners, public databases, or similar third-party data sources.

2. How We Use Personal Information

We may use personal information to:

  • create, maintain, and secure user accounts;
  • provide access to videos, comments, likes, and other Service features;
  • authenticate users and prevent unauthorized access;
  • operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Services;
  • personalize basic user-facing functionality and remember user preferences;
  • provide customer support and respond to inquiries;
  • send service-related notices and, where permitted, content updates or other communications;
  • detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our terms;
  • comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests; and
  • establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We do not use personal information for targeted advertising or cross-context behavioral advertising as of the Effective Date of this Privacy Policy.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

If you are in the European Economic Area (“EEA”), the United Kingdom (“UK”), Switzerland, or another jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing, we process personal information only where an appropriate legal basis applies, including:

  • Contract: when processing is necessary to provide the Services you request or to administer your account;
  • Legitimate interests: when necessary for purposes such as operating and improving the Services, protecting security, preventing fraud, and understanding how the Services are used, where those interests are not overridden by your rights;
  • Consent: where we ask for your consent for a particular activity; and
  • Legal obligation: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.

You may withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis for processing. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

4. How We Share Personal Information

We may disclose personal information only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy.

This may include sharing with service providers that help us with functions such as:

  • website and application hosting;
  • database services and user authentication;
  • media storage and content delivery;
  • transactional email and communications;
  • translation or localization services;
  • security, fraud prevention, and technical monitoring; and
  • privacy-preserving analytics.

These providers may process personal information only as needed to provide services to us and subject to applicable contractual and legal requirements.

We may also disclose information:

  • to comply with law, legal process, or lawful government requests;
  • to investigate or protect against fraud, abuse, security threats, or violations of our terms;
  • to protect the rights, safety, or property of AfterShe, our users, or others;
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction; or
  • with your direction or consent.

No sale or targeted advertising

As of the Effective Date, we do not sell personal information for monetary consideration and do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or use personal information for targeted advertising.

5. Cookies, Local Storage, and Similar Technologies

We use a limited number of cookies and similar technologies to operate and secure the Services, support authentication, remember certain user preferences, and understand how the Services are used.

Cookies

During ordinary anonymous browsing, AfterShe does not currently place advertising, analytics, or other non-essential cookies on your device.

Certain cookies may be used when necessary to provide features you request or to protect the Services. These may include:

  • Authentication cookies. When you sign in or initiate sign-in, cookies may be used to complete authentication, maintain your session, and protect the login process. For example, our authentication provider may use a temporary PKCE code-verifier cookie as part of the OAuth sign-in process.
  • Security and abuse-prevention cookies. Infrastructure providers such as Cloudflare may use short-lived cookies to detect bots, abuse, or malicious traffic.
  • Third-party sign-in cookies. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google may set cookies on Google-owned domains as part of its authentication process. These cookies are controlled by Google and are subject to Google's own privacy and cookie practices. AfterShe does not set, read, or receive Google's cookies on Google's domains.

Some Google cookies used during the sign-in process may also support other Google services or preferences outside of AfterShe. Their presence does not mean that AfterShe uses Google advertising or targeted advertising technologies.

Local Storage

The Services may use browser local storage to remember settings or support features that you choose to use. Depending on your activity, these may include:

  • your preferred video quality;
  • your preferred subtitle language;
  • a short-lived pending action so an action can continue after sign-in;
  • information needed to resume a creator upload; and
  • information associated with an invitation or confirmation flow.

These storage entries are used for functionality and are not used by AfterShe for targeted advertising.

Analytics

We use privacy-preserving analytics to understand general usage of the Services and improve performance and reliability.

We currently use Vercel Web Analytics. In the browser, Vercel Web Analytics operates without setting or reading cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, or similar persistent identifiers. It may process information such as the page visited, referring page, timestamp, browser or device information, and IP-related information.

Vercel may derive limited server-side information, such as a temporary visitor identifier or hash, from technical information including IP address and user-agent information. We use this analytics information for our legitimate interests in understanding aggregate use of the Services, maintaining the Services, measuring performance, and improving user experience, subject to applicable law.

Advertising Technologies

We do not currently use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, cross-site behavioral advertising technologies, or similar advertising trackers on the Services.

If our use of cookies or similar technologies materially changes in the future — for example, if we introduce advertising or other non-essential tracking technologies — we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required by applicable law, provide appropriate choices or obtain consent before using those technologies.

You can generally configure your browser to block, delete, or limit cookies and browser storage. However, blocking technologies that are necessary for authentication, security, or requested functionality may prevent certain features of the Services from working properly.

6. Third-Party Sign-In

If you register for or sign in to AfterShe using a third-party authentication provider, such as Google, the provider may send us information associated with your account according to the permissions you approve.

We use this information only to authenticate you, create or maintain your AfterShe account, provide account features, and protect the security of the Services.

Your use of a third-party sign-in provider is also subject to that provider’s own privacy practices.

7. International Data Transfers

AfterShe is based in the United States, and personal information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate.

If personal information from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland is transferred to a country that has not been recognized as providing an adequate level of data protection, we will use an appropriate transfer mechanism where required, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or other lawful safeguards.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to provide the Services, maintain account functionality, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud, and protect security.

In general, account information may be retained for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account or request deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal information as required by applicable law, subject to limited retention where necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Residual copies may remain in backups for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted in the ordinary course of operations.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information.

However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your own device, email account, and sign-in credentials.

10. Children and Minors

The Services are not directed to children under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 18, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. If you believe a person under 18 has provided personal information to us, please contact team@aftershe.com.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information. These may include the right to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate personal information;
  • request deletion of personal information;
  • obtain a portable copy of certain personal information;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
  • opt out of certain sales, sharing, or targeted advertising where applicable;
  • limit certain uses of sensitive personal information where applicable; and
  • appeal certain decisions we make regarding a privacy request, where applicable.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising rights provided by applicable privacy law.

We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by applicable law, but we may require proof of authorization and verification of the consumer’s identity.

12. U.S. State Privacy Disclosures

Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional rights under applicable state privacy laws.

Depending on the law that applies, these rights may include access, correction, deletion, portability, appeal, and the right to opt out of certain sales, sharing, targeted advertising, or profiling.

As of the Effective Date:

  • we do not sell personal information;
  • we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising;
  • we do not use personal information for targeted advertising; and
  • we do not knowingly process sensitive personal information for purposes that require a separate right to limit or opt out.

Where required by applicable law, we will honor valid browser-based or other legally recognized opt-out preference signals when those signals apply to processing we actually perform.

13. EEA, UK, Swiss, and Canadian Privacy Rights

If you are located in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, or Canada, applicable data protection law may provide additional rights, which can include access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent, and the right to complain to a data protection authority.

If applicable, you may also lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in the jurisdiction where you live or work.

14. Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Controls

Some browsers and devices offer “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) signals. Because there is not a single universally accepted standard for DNT signals, we do not currently respond to DNT signals except where required by applicable law.

Where applicable law requires recognition of a legally valid opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control (“GPC”), we will honor that signal for processing activities to which the requirement applies.

Because AfterShe does not currently sell personal information or use personal information for targeted advertising, an opt-out signal may not change your current experience.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our Services, technologies, business practices, or legal requirements.

When we make changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page. If a change is material and applicable law requires additional notice, we will provide that notice through the Services or another appropriate method.
